Last week we did the one-over-the-world description of US Army Ranger school. To sum up, it’s really, really, REALLY freaking hard, even for some of the strongest, toughest, most mentally and physically fit young men in the country and the world. It’s also the soul of the Army, explaining more about why we are what we are than any other military factor.
In a few days, or maybe as much as a few weeks, if the Secretary of the Army and the Chief of Staff of the Army wish to give the appearance of sober thought about it, the decision is going to be announced that women will be entering Ranger School very soon indeed. Why do I think this? I think it for a couple of reasons. One is that some folks still in the system have notified me of it, sub rosa, and in at least one case asked me to let such of the world as listens to me know what an epically stupid and dishonest idea it is. Another is that a blog (hat tip: Weaponsman) has very conveniently assembled much of the written evidence. I’m as sure of it as I am that the sun will rise in the east; the fix is in.
